Health misinformation is a widespread problem, with false or misleading information about both long standing health concerns like cancer and emergent situations like the COVID-19 pandemic spreading at a rapid pace. Sometimes questionable health information is obvious, but it can also be difficult to recognize and can potentially reach millions of people. 

Introduction to Health Reference: Ethics and Best Practices

In this 4 credit-hour, on-demand class learn how to conduct a health reference interview using ethical and effective communication strategies.

This class addresses increasing health information access and use by including information about the NLM/NIH resource MedlinePlus "Evaluating Internet Health Information: A Tutorial from the National Library of Medicine".

Introduction to Precision Medicine

Introduction to Precision Medicine is an introductory, on-demand course for public librarians. This class is designed to introduce learners to the concept of precision medicine, the NIH All of Us Research Program (All of Us), and how All of Us contributes to advancing precision medicine. This course will provide the learner with resources to support patrons with questions or concerns about precision medicine and related health topics.

Making Sense of Numbers: Communicating Numerical Health Information

Numeracy  is the ability to access, use, interpret, and communicate mathematical information and ideas, to engage in and manage mathematical demands of a range of situations in adult life. (CDC, 2021).  Numeracy literacy can be a challenge not only for individuals receiving health information, but also for those providing information. This 90 minute/1.5 credit hour webinar is an introduction to communicating numerical health information.

NNLM 2024 Showcase Symposium

The NNLM 2024 Virtual Symposium is to highlight projects and activities that NNLM Regional Medical Libraries, Offices, and Centers sponsored. Each of the projects are in support NNLM's Mission, the national initiatives, and/or the NLM Strategic Plan. Additionally, the NNLM will host events to support you in planning and applying for grants to do your own project.

NNLM Book Discussion

NNLM Book Discussion offers librarians, health professionals, and public health workers interested in better understanding health issues faced by their communities an opportunity to explore topics with other professionals and earn Continuing Education Credit.

Participants can complete the book and earn CE credit on their schedule. A new book is selected each quarter. Participants can acquire the book in their preferred format and have 3 months to complete the requirements and earn 4 MLA CE by participating in either an online or live discussion

It showcases guest speakers who address various topics relevant to our members, including librarians, public health practitioners, educators, clinicians, and other healthcare information professionals. Our selection of topics is influenced by audience preferences and requests, trends, seasonal relevance, and speaker availability, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for all participants.
